The results of the PET scan were in this morning and Mom was off to the clinic for blood work and a visit with her oncologist Dr. McHale. I was nervously awaiting the phone call from Mom hoping for good news but expecting the worst. She was awfully nervous as well.
The phone rang and my heart flipped. (If I ever wanted to know what it was like to have a heart attack I think my Mom gave me a good run for it this morning.) On the other end of the phone was my Mom, crying. I started to cry. She said “no, no Honey its good news – these are good tears!”
I continued to cry, my emotions can’t just turn on and off like that.
The results of the PET scan were more than we could have ever wanted. The Cancer is localized, meaning it has not spread anywhere. Not to her bones, brain, liver, pancreas, or even the other lung! It’s 100% treatable!!!!
She starts treatment Monday (I think, correct me if I’m wrong Nurse Shannon). She will go 5 days a week for 5 weeks to the Cancer Center in Watertown for a little blast of Radiation and a low dose of Chemotherapy. After the 5 weeks of radiation she will begin a higher dose of Chemotherapy (higher dose = more symptoms) and hopefully blast the C-word out of her body!
I’m reminded that it’s a long road of treatments a head, but I’m so grateful to have that road to travel!
Alleluia Praise God!!!
